Mark Burger will enter
his first year as the 9th grade head coach for Edina. He joins Pat
Dorsey’s staff after a successful year for the EBA and camp/clinic
director for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Prior to coming to Minneapolis in 2007, Burger was the Head Women’s
Basketball coach at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York – a
position he attained after three years as First Assistant at Stevens
Institute of Technology (NJ) and three years at Mercy College (NY),
where he served as assistant and later Associate Head Coach. Burger
helped the Stevens Ducks to a combined record of 59-26 and three
appearances in the ECAC Division III Metro Championship. At Mercy
the Flyers made the NYAC Division II conference playoffs every year
and were honored with the USA Today/NCAA II Academic Achievement
Award for their team GPA.
Burger began his coaching career in 1992 when he served as the head
coach of a college prep team in Switzerland for five years. In 1999,
Burger became the head coach of the boy’s junior varsity team at
Chino High School in California. After one season at Chino, Burger
returned to Switzerland to become an assistant coach with the Zurich
Lions of the Swiss men’s professional league.
Burger lives with his wife Lisa in Minneapolis, where they are
outnumbered by what he calls their “zoo of rescues” – two dogs and
two cats. While his lifelong passion is Basketball, he works as a
graphic designer and marketing manager for the country’s 12th
largest print publication, GameInformer Magazine. He is extremely
excited to continue working with Edina’s youth.
